Packing for the journey

A little preparation makes the pilgrimage smoother, leaving you free to focus on worship. Pack light, bring only what you need, and remember that in the state of ihram you avoid perfumed soap, shampoo, and lotion - so choose unscented toiletries.

A few tips

Label your bags, keep documents and money in a pouch on your person, wear comfortable sandals you can slip on and off for wudu and prayer, and carry a small bag for your shoes when entering the Haram. A refillable bottle helps you stay hydrated in the heat.

Trust and intention

Once packed, renew your intention and place your trust in Allah. The best provision is taqwa, as Allah says: 'And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is taqwa' (Surah al-Baqarah 2:197).

Pack for worship, not for a holiday

The packing mistake pilgrims regret is not forgetting an item - almost everything can be bought near the Haram - it is packing as if for a holiday. The days are long, the walking is measured in kilometers, and the schedule belongs to the rites rather than to you. So the list optimizes for endurance and simplicity: broken-in footwear you can walk far in and slip off at the mosque door, layers for fierce sun outside and cold air-conditioning inside, unscented toiletries for the state of ihram, and medicines you actually take, carried with you rather than checked. Everything that saves a decision on a crowded day - copies of documents, small bills, a bag you can carry through a crowd - earns its place twice over.

Using this checklist

Work through the list and tick items as they go into the bag - each tick is saved on your device instantly, so you can pack across several evenings, close the tab, and pick up exactly where you stopped. The list covers documents, clothing and ihram, health, money, and the small practical items experience keeps voting for. Before travel, a printable version is available among the downloads if paper suits the kitchen table better. Your ticks stay on this device and are never sent anywhere.

Common questions

Is my progress saved?

Yes, on your device only - tick items as you pack and they stay ticked when you return. Nothing is sent or shared.

Why unscented toiletries?

In the state of ihram, using perfume is avoided, and many soaps and shampoos are scented. Unscented versions let you stay clean without breaking ihram.

Can I add my own items?

Yes - add your own items at the bottom of the list and they are saved on your device alongside the rest. Use the essentials as a base and extend it with your personal extras.

Is this private?

Yes. The checklist runs entirely in your browser; nothing is sent or saved off your device.
